Abstract

The set of questions triggered throughout our supervised teaching practice – namely the students’ indifference towards poverty –, which were the foundation for the current pedagogical-theological inquiry, acted as a starting point for attempting to understand how the course in Catholic Moral and Religious Education can play a role in contending this attitude. After all the background research about common good and its relevance for the dignity of the human life had been carried out, we developed a pedagogical proposal based on service learning, that may help students to engage in poverty issues in general and in famine issues in particular, on the one hand, and, on the other hand, to raise their awareness about both these topics.
