Abstract

In hospitality, the main constructs studied are stress, which translates into burnout and emotional exhaustion, making it very pertinent to study the relationship between catering and burnout. This area of work is made up of fast-paced services, non-standard working hours, low salaries and few benefits contribute to a feeling of conflict between work and family responsibilities, and this tension is part of the work-family conflict. This quantitative study, although with some limitations, aims to explore the relationship between burnout and workfamily interaction in hospitality professionals. The sample consisted of 107 participants aged between 20 and 61 who worked in the hotel industry. The results indicate an association between the constructs under study, Burnout and work-family/family-work interaction. At the time of data collection, most of the participants had already experienced negative moments of work-family interaction, and higher levels of Burnout were found in the exhaustion dimension. Future studies could deepen the understanding of Burnout and work-family/workfamily interaction in hotel workers, taking into account the different work and sociodemographic variables and also assessing the differences between managerial and nonmanagerial positions.
