This report comes within the scope of the 15th Master's Course in Nursing, specializing in Medical-Surgical Nursing in the area critical situation person’s Nursing, of the Institute of Health Sciences (Porto) of Universidade Católica Portuguesa, and aims to highlight the main contributions obtained from the curricular unit “Final internship and Report” of the Course’s third semester, addressing the main competences obtained throughout all the way, aiming to achieve the Master's Degree in Nursing. The internship took place in two contexts, the first one an Intensive Care Unit dedicated to the treatment of people in a neurocritical situation, and the second one a Multipurpose Intensive Care Service of the Emergency Department, more focused on the treatment of polytraumatized person. The activities developed, which aimed to respond to the previously outlined objectives, were the subject of reflexive critical analysis and based on the best evidence, mirroring the way they contributed for the consolidation of the Medical-Surgical Specialist and Master’s in Nursing profile, in the area of Nursing within the person in critical situation. The report, built based on a descriptive and reflective methodology of the activities carried out, is structurally organized into three chapters. In addition to the introduction, conclusion, and bibliographical reference’s section, it presents a chapter called “Previous development of professional skills”, in which the skills acquired during the internship carried out in the second semester of the first year of the course is described. Then, it presents a chapter in which the internship contexts are characterized and later a chapter called “Development of the competences of the Specialist and Master’s in Nursing”, which is divided into subchapters according to the domains of the common competences of the Specialist Nurse. In the professional, ethical and legal responsibility domain, situations that address respect for human rights, security, privacy and the protection of person in critical situations were described and analyzed. In the field of continuous quality improvement, activities aimed at the safety and quality of care designed for person in a neurocritical situation and polytraumatized person were highlighted, within the scope of communication, pain management, infection control, unforeseen and complex situations. In the field of care management, emphasis was placed on collaboration and interest in understanding the entire management process of an Intensive Care Service, and finally, in the field of professional learning development, all activities were aimed at developing skills to promote the personal and professional development between peers, based on the identification of opportunities for improvement and, subsequently, on in-service training. Now that the academic path is completed, it is considered that the skills that will sustain a specialized care practice to the person in critical situation were developed through decision-making processes, based on reflected action and practice based on the best scientific evidence.
