O celibato sacerdotal

: uma reflexão em torno da encíclica Sacerdotalis Caelibatus

Abstract

Celebrating its fiftieth anniversary, the encyclical Sacerdotalis Caelibatus promulgated by the pope Paul VI continues to present itself as the main document of the Magisterium on priestly celibacy. In fact, the present investigation is intended to understand the pertinence and importance of the teachings of this document for the present times. For this purpose, we will opt for a journey that will allow us to understand the Encyclical and its theme in a biblical and historical dimension, in order, to grasp the biblical, historical, and theological elements that underlie his reflection. Because, these elements will help us to interpret the profound theological meaning of celibacy in an christological, ecclesiological and eschatological dimension, being effectively the main objective of this work.
