Nursing education plays a central role in the construction and development of nurses in providing quality care, inherent to the technological and scientific evolution and to the changes in people's needs. Nursing specialization becomes an important asset because it allows a combination of the acquired knowledge with the development and certification of scientific, technical, relational and emotional specialized skills. This Report aims to describe the route performed during the internship under the 5th Master's Degree in Nursing and Specialization in Medical-Surgical Nursing, at the Institute of Health Sciences, Portuguese Catholic University of Lisbon, between 2012 and 2013. This internship took place at tree places: in an Intensive Care Unit, an Emergency Department and a Community Support Team for Palliative Care. Throughout the report will be addressed the objectives, outlined for each stage module, in a critical and reflective way, as well as the activities and skills developed. This is structured as follows: the first chapter presents a systematic review of the literature and its implications for nursing; in the second chapter we characterize the dynamics and organization of team and describe and analyze the route performed in each, taking into account the objectives outlined. In the last chapter, we present a brief conclusion, which emphasize the importance of the skills developed for practice and highlight the implications of the report for practice, teaching and research. Also, some of the work developed in each internship field will be presented as appendices, and important papers cited in the report will be presented as attachments The guiding thread that was behind the internship was related with the promotion of comfort to the person, relating to the Theory of Kolcaba Comfort and Care Theory of Jean Watson. Internships allow new experiences, providing excellent moments of learning and direct contact with people in all kinds of situations and bring relevant knowledge, thus contributing to the acquisition and mobilization of knowledge in the area of expertise and to the development of reasoning, analytical and critical skills, thus allowing the development of expertise. The person’s care was based on a critical and reflective practice, in nursing theories and evidence. This report allows a reflection over the practices and the skills developed.
