With technological and social evolution, a new trend is emerging in the consumption of audiovisual content by young Portuguese people, driven by the popularity of foreign video streaming platforms, which end up influencing the way these individuals consume national fiction products. OPTO, which is part of SIC (Sociedade Independente da Comunicação), is the first video streaming platform with a paid service in Portugal, and follows this trend. The main aim of this work is to understand how OPTO, which focuses mainly on national fiction content, can attract young Portuguese people in the current century, and how these young people relate to the platform. To achieve this goal, after a brief theoretical contextualisation on the evolution of television and national audiovisual fiction, an investigation was carried out in which the method chosen was mixed methodology, combining qualitative and quantitative approaches. On the qualitative side, I interviewed one of the people responsible for OPTO and carried out a detailed analysis of the platform and its fiction content. This allowed me to get an internal perspective on how the platform works, as well as its national fiction content. Quantitatively, we developed a questionnaire survey, made available online, aimed at young people aged 15-24, in which we obtained 386 responses corresponding to the desired age group. This allowed us to collect data on the consumption, preferences and opinions of the young people surveyed about national fiction content and the OPTO platform.
