Student thesis: Master's Thesis

The literature demonstrates a growing preponderance of Business Intelligence (BI) in the business environment over the years. This fact results mainly from the constant technological evolution and the entry of the world into the Industry 4.0 era, which led to an increase in the complexity and demand of the market and created a series of challenges for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). In this context, the implementation of BI systems can be an important strategy for SMEs to gain a competitive advantage, promoting improvements in terms of management and performance of companies. This dissertation aims to evaluate the contributions of BI, with a focus on the implementation of BI systems, for the management of SMEs, and also how this influence on management is reflected in performance, through a case study of a consultancy microenterprise. For this study, interviews were conducted with key individuals in the process of implementing the BI system in the organization, complemented by document analysis. The positive results generated by the implementation of the BI system for the company's management were the main highlight of the study, although without a notable influence on operating results. The main critical success factors of each of the phases of the system implementation process and the barriers to that same implementation were also identified, considering that the identification of these elements can help other SMEs that intend, in the future, to implement BI systems.
