This report’s gold is to analyze several journalistic questions, which constitute subject of reflection on nowadays society and an integral part of the media debate, in order for us to have a clear idea about the journalistic practices and how ‘crime’ news are treated in Correio da Manhã (the newspaper chosen to be analyzed). After a first theoretical part where a bibliographic review about themes such as sources, objectivity and presumption of innocence, among others, is done, and also the description of the internship experience in Correio da Manhã, there’s a second part – an empirical one – where we analyze the ‘crime’ news published in six editions. There are several conclusions that we can take from this analysis, being the most relevant ones the fact that a) the majority of news (93,9%) don’t identify their source, b) 98,9% are constituted by a text exclusively factual – in order words, there’s an objective report from the event -, and c) only 52,5% from the news to which presumption of innocence is applied, respect this constitutional right. Having this in mind, we can say that there are two situations – a) and c) – that should be fixed, in order to fulfill the purposes established in Código Deontológico dos Jornalistas and, regarding case c), the right (presumption of innocence) consecrated in Constituição da República Portuguesa.
