This report aims to describe the journey of personal and professional growth in the development of skills, particularly in a specialization in the medical-surgical area. The report shows the relationship between the theory and practice of care in internship, decision making based on scientific evidence, not to mention the ethical and deontological nursing principles. The internship is divided into three modules, which include a period in Intensive Care Unit, Unit for Palliative Care and Emergency Service, carried out in such order and where activities were developed to achieve different goals. The defined objectives focused on the acquisition and/or development of expertise in providing care in different contexts, and promoting safety and improving quality of care. The principal activities were related to different themes, focused on raising awareness of health professionals to promote sleep of patients in intensive care unit; the presentation of results of an integrative review of literature about the reduction of family burden in palliative care; and it was conducted a training action to improve the nursing care of the patient at the end of life and his family in the emergency service. The various internship fields, identified difficulties, overcome with commitment and support of guiding nurses and teachers from Portuguese Catholic University, checking the progressive acquisition of autonomy in care and integration in the dynamics of each department and respective multidisciplinary teams. The various contexts provided my personal and professional development. Over the internships, I have kept the provision of quality nursing care to patient and his family, respecting the person as an individual and subjective, trying to meet their comfort and relationship needs in a multidimensional approach: physical, psychological, emotional and environmental. The description and critical reflection of the diversity of internship experiences, grounded in theoretical reference to justify attitudes, behaviors, care provided and the development of specialized nursing skills. Future liabilities arise in continuous personal and professional development, promoting excellence in nursing exercise.
