Abstract
Xavier Rubert de Ventós (1939-2023) was a philosopher, writer and politician, based on Catalonia. According to the individual perspective of a phenomenological experience, this philosopher conceptualizes the aesthetic experience in three steps: Astonishment, Recognition and De-Recognition. Rubert de Ventós sustains that the aesthetic pleasure only can be experienced in an act of a de-recognition. However, the aesthetic experience is not justcharacteristic, or condition, of an artwork, because it can be experienced in other realities. This fact represents an obstacle finding the definition of art, as well as its authentic experience. In this study, we investigate how the definition of a De-Recognition can be appropriate to explain the human aesthetic faculty. To accomplish this purpose, we have started from the proposition that the two first steps – Astonishment and Recognition – must be exceed, in order to occur the true aesthetic experience. For Xavier Rubert de Ventós, the aesthetic experience presupposes, at the same time, an «uninvolved» and «receptive» attitude, which arise when we don’t intend to dominate an experience. This philosopher also supports that the truth always transcends our predictions or expectations. Nevertheless, it is also true that in this infinite dialectical spiral, the synthesis of a true de-recognition will create a new thesis – an astonishment –, to which the antithesis of a recognition will always be opposed.
