Abstract

In special education, Information and Communication Technologies and Assistive Technologies facilitate the process of students’ inclusion with Special Educational Needs, thus contributing to the already known "School for all", consigned in the Declaration of Salamanca. In this context, we support that the prevailing educational agents for the study are the regular and special education teachers by their leading roles in promoting the use of Information and Communication Technologies and Assistive Technologies. However, it should be noted that the partnership work between them will undoubtedly be crucial for promoting the success of these students. Given the importance of Information and Communication Technologies and Assistive Technologies in the students teaching and learning process with Special Educational Needs intend this work to know the opinion of teachers in regular and special education on their use in said process, at the level of the 1st cycle of basic education, some schools in the district of Viseu. Supported by theoretical framework, we proceeded with the use of questionnaires as instruments of data collection applied to teachers regular education and special education. The results seem to indicate that special education teachers are more updated in terms of strategies for the use of technology regarding Special Educational Needs comparatively to regular education. However, both consider that schools do not have sufficient technological resources to receive students with Special Educational Needs and the conditions and restrictions to access and use of space and equipment present in schools raise difficulties to the use of these resources in teaching and learning. It was also been possible to verify the need for further training in this area.
