Abstract

From our experience as school administrators we acknowledged that the position of form teacher is one of the most comprehensive and important in a school dynamics. Whoever leads a school knows that a “good” form teacher is the drive for academic success and for the improvement of the quality of the organisation. A form teacher acts in many different environments; the relationship he establishes with the various interlocutors is key to the school functioning and management. The form teacher overlaps many tasks: administrative, which require specific technical knowledge; coordination, with a strong leadership which is essential for conflict management; and pedagogical, centred in the students, in classroom work, in the teachers and in their relationship with the families. The form teacher’s tasks, his formal and informal competences (namely for tutoring and guiding each student’s school path) and the cooperation networks he establishes among the different agents in the process – these are all his distinctive marks and the focus of the expectations of the local and national management and of the school community. This project is set on the action dynamics of the form teacher as a pillar of the students’ learning improvement and best interests; on his relationships with the other teachers by motivating them for the collaborative work in the students’ best interest; and on his affinity with the families by motivating them for a shared action in the students’ learning process.
