Abstract

The preparation of this report appears to be the end of an evolution in the development of skills targeted to the infection control area specifically in safe practices promotion like the title refers: The Specialist nurse as a safe practices promoter. Held under the Professional Nature Nursing Master Course, in the Medical-Surgical Nursing Specialization area of the Lisbon’s Portuguese Catholic University’s Health Sciences Institute. Aims to highlight the development that occurred along this three stages journey, each with different contours, but overall directed to the adult and elderly with severe disease client/family, especially an advanced nursing care to the client in critical condition. In all three modules the guiding principle was, undoubtedly, the infection prevention and promotion in order to trigger safe behaviors. This journey began in the Infection Control Committee - optional Module was preceded by the Intensive Care Unit and ended with the adults Emergency Service. All stages of the course were held in Faro Hospital, EPE. Throughout this journey there was skills development opportunity in customer/family providing differentiated care in the critical condition area, client/family and peers communication training which were, undoubtedly, transverse to the three Stage Modules. The used methodology to compile this literature aims to reflect the different experienced situations points to literature research and aims to reflect the experienced various situations, based on the evolution, that is, skills development. Developed activities that contributed to the care improvement of the client/family in critical condition by identifying problematic situations. The practice reflection aims to excellence of care and arises systematically and updated allowing support to our decisions.
