After an incursion on the theories related to the fantastic literary genre, and a confrontation with the neofantastic, concept in which the fear and terror inherent to the traditional “fantastic” narrative are excluded, the present Dissertation lays on these fundamentals, that fit the titles that constitute the centre of this investigation. This technical approach leans on the contribution of some researchers like Tzvetan Todorov, especially when it comes to the hybridism, the evolution of the concept of “fantastic”and seminal studies. We consider therefore that it is important to determine the boundaries that distinguish the fantastic genre from the others. Ana Teresa Pereira’s narrative fiction in the title “O Lago”, proposes a specific comprehension of the “fantastic” as a total, embracing all the real aspects. Therefore, our analysis focuses on the vocabulary, symbolic imagery and thematic processes of O Lago. Based on the analysis of three titles, prior to this one, that are characterized by an intrinsic and obsessive unit, having as basis images of a terrible and fantastic beauty, we intend to demonstrate the originality of the topics from Ana Teresa Pereira’s writing. On the hermeneutic supranatural field, we can verify that the decoding and interpretation process of Ana Teresa Pereira’s texts, resemble to an enigmatic narrative, very well plotted on its perturbation effect, opened to the transcendent, sacred and numinous.
