Abstract

Innovation and international expansion are two critical factors for any modern company that wishes not only to grow and expand, but also to win in the marketplace, maintaining, or even creating, new competitive advantages. The way that this search for innovation will affect the entry strategies of a company is, as such, of considerable relevancy. As such, the objective of this dissertation is, having has its basis the information recovered during the internship the author underwent between September 2011 and February 2012 at Adira S.A., to identify the impact that the search for innovation will have in the entry modes chosen by the company. To achieve this goal, we begin by reviewing the available theory of innovation and entry modes, then applying this knowledge to the practical case of Adira S.A., and how this search for innovation and entry strategies have evolved in this company over its history. The main conclusion of this paper is that the investment in innovation leads to an alteration of the company’s traditional entry mode strategy, leading to entry modes with bigger commitment.
