Abstract

This report, presented within the scope of the Professional Practice I and II and Pedagogical Intervention Project (PIP) curricular units, is carried out within the context of the Master’s in Music Teaching, at the Escola das Artes of the Catholic University of Porto, being implemented in the hosting entity, Academia de Música de Vila Verde (AMVV), during the 2021/2022 school year. This report aims to present the activities developed in the initiation to the practice of supervised teaching, in the area of specialization of teaching Instrument (Singing) and Ensemble Class (Choir), in the research applied to the construction, elaboration, implementation and evaluation of a PIP, under the scientific guidance of Professor Sofia Serra. With the implementation of the PIP, under the theme: “The impact of meditation on the well-being of the singing student and on their inter and intrapersonal relationship with colleagues and teachers”, the main objective is to experiment and base the practices of Mindfulness in singing students in the classroom context, as an integral part of the teaching process. Through the exploration of a program based on mindfulness meditations (Mindful Basic Interventions type, MBI´s) it is intended to teach students to connect with themselves and with their thoughts as they are, realizing how their emotions can affect your body. In this sense, a survey was carried out among the students of the Singing Class and Ensemble Class (Choir), through the diagnostic tool-questionnaire, in order to know their vulnerabilities in the aspect of mental and physical self-awareness, self-judgment and awareness of their peers and himself. Subsequently, after analyzing the respective questionnaires, the contents were prepared according to the needs of each student in the singing class and with the students in the group class, the needs of the group in general. Building 3-minute guided meditations with intuitive scripts so that each class, each student was aware of these aspects. The evaluation was carried out using a new post-test questionnaire and through observation of performances, adjusted by an observation guide. The results showed that the practice of Mindfulness promotes a reduction in stress, increases self-confidence and intensifies empathy. From a physical point of view, there is a progression of awareness of technical and emotional breathing.
