Abstract

The present study is part of the JUST COVID 19 project (Universidade Católica Portuguesa), in partnership with the YO&JUST project (Universidade NOVA de Lisboa) and its overall objective is to understand the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the execution of educational guardianship measures in the community. Although this phenomenon is recent, international studies have already highlighted its impact on justice systems and juvenile delinquency. To achieve the defined objectives, data from the Direção-Geral de Reinserção e Serviços Prisionais were analyzed and interviews were conducted with eight professionals from social reintegration teams. The results showed significant impacts in the determination and execution of the measures because of the closing of institutions that host Community Service Tasks, and in the archiving, suspension or change of measure. As for the monitoring of the implementation of measures, the professionals reported the change from face to face to digital platforms. For future research, it is suggested to clarify the relevance of digital means as a site of monitoring the educational measures.
