Abstract

This paper, written in the scope of the Mestrado em Ensino de Música, is split in two parts: the professional practice report and the educational intervention project. The first part describes and highlights all the steps taken and lessons learned during the professional internship in instrumental and vocal specialization: viola and ensemble, held during the 2021/2022 school year at Escola Básica e Secundária Luís António Verney. The second part presents the educational intervention project “The impact of carrying out activities as a motivational strategy in the context of teaching and learning viola” as a scientific article. Indeed, it is an empirical study in the field of specialized music instruction. By holding a master class and two project sessions, named “Andor Violeta”, previously implemented by the author, taking a field trip to a luthier’s studio, and attending the dress rehearsal of a professional orchestra, it was possible to investigate whether participating in these activities could lead to an increase in motivation and consequently a greater dedication to studying viola. The methodology used was action research and the results revealed that this project had a very positive impact on the students, having contributed not only to the development of their motivational skills, but also interpersonal and social skills.
