This dissertation aimed to make an exploratory analysis on the impact of the adoption of digital technologies in the export side of Portuguese Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the metalworking industry. The method used was the Case Study Research method. Three companies of the Portuguese metalworking industry were analyzed, operating in various subsectors of this industry, with different dimensions and that invested in digital technologies. The results show that the three SMEs analyzed benefited from the use of digital technologies and that these have a relevant role in their exports and/or internationalization, providing them with competitive advantages over competitors.
