Abstract

The differentiated training in Nursing is currently an added value given the problems present in the provision of health care. The specialization in Nursing provides the acquisition of specific competencies and skills that allow a specialised intervention in response to the needs of the patient and family that receive health care. This paper intends to describe, reflect and analyse the main activities that I performed during the placements with the purpose of acquiring and developing the Common Competencies of the Specialist Nurse, as well as the Specific Competencies of the Specialist Nurse in Medical-Surgical Nursing in the area of Nursing to the Person in Critical Situation. The placements were performed in two Emergency Services and in a Critical Care Unit. Throughout this report it´s going to be highlighted the thematic of High Flow Nasal Cannula, through the elaboration of a scoping review that pretends to map the benefits of this modality of respiratory assistance in the care of people with SARS-CoV-2 infection as well as the specialised nursing interventions in implementation of this technique. I consider that my development in the care of the Person in Critical Situation in the context of the Emergency Service was accomplished gradually, with an adaptation of the strategy through daily reflections on the directed interventions, which facilitated an improvement of specialized skills involving issues of the ethical domain, management of care and professional learning, highlighting this point as one of the assets of my course. In the Critical Care Unit, I highlight the unique opportunity I had to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team in the change of facilities, resulting from the transition to a new hospital, as well as to collaborate in the transfer and transport of the Person in Critical Situation to the new UCI. I consider, as a result of this journey, that I achieved the proposed objectives and, at the same time, the development of the Common Competencies of the Specialist Nurse, the Specific Competencies of the Specialist Nurse in Medical-Surgical Nursing in the area of Nursing to the Person in Critical Situation and master skills.
