The mains purpose of this study was to answer the following question: is there a relationship between indebtedness and quality of life? To achieve this objective quantitative methodology was used. For data collection, a questionnaire was created based on the OEC-DECO (Frade, 2013) and WHOQOL-BREF (Carona et al., 2006) questionnaires. This study identified a positive relationship between indebtedness (have credits) and quality of life. After analyzing the various domains of quality of life (physical, psychological, social and environment) and the quality of life in general, it was concluded that for the psychological and the environment domains, quality of life is, on average, higher for people who hold credits. And also, for the psychological domain, the quality of life is, on average, higher for people who have both mortgage and non-mortgage credit when compared to people without credit or people with only mortgage credit. As for the physical domain, it was not possible to establish a cause-effect relationship between indebtedness and quality of life. After studying over-indebtedness (having arrears in installments), for all the domains was found that, on average, the quality of life of over-indebtedness people was significant lower that those who are able to pay back their credits on time.
