Abstract

Introduction: Delírium is defined as a syndrome characterized by consciousness disturbances, attention deficit and disorders of cognition/perception, that simultaneously lead to a process of global brain dysfunction with a high impact on patient, family and professionals.In order to perceive the dimension of such impact on health professionals, particularly,in nurses who work in palliative settings, this study aims to identify, specifically, thepsychological impact of delirium in the context of palliative care.Method: Systematic review of the literature held between March and April 2021, usingpubmed, EBSCO and Scopus electronic databases. Articles from 2005 to 2020 wereincluded.Results: A total of 13 articles were selected, including qualitative, quantitative,ethnographic studies, revisions of the literature and state of art articles. Among the selected articles, researchers often identify a psychological impact of delírium among nurses and it´s association with the deficit of professional training to deal with it.Conclusion: The findings of this study highlight the complex psychological impact of delirium among nurses. It is characterized by difficulties on the decision-making process, ethical dilemmas, problems of unpredictability, feelings of mistrust, isolation, guilt, anxiety, and frustration, concomitantly with increased workload that these patientsrepresent
