Abstract

The subject of this internship’s report is the opening news and Manuela Moura Guedes’ performance style in “Jornal Nacional de Sexta”. The experience gained during the internship at TVI aroused me the interest about clear differences between several news bulletins. In fact, television and television news have been affected with deep changes due to infotainment’s prevalence. More and more, the goal of news is to distract instead of inform, in order to get more audiences and bigger profits. Concerning this recent dynamic, empirical analysis was worked on ten opening news of “Jornal Nacional de Sexta” in order to determine the type of discursive and textual strategies in news and anchor’s performance. From results, we concluded that infotainment dominated because shocking events prevailed and Moura Guedes’ performance style didn’t fulfill the rules for a news anchor.
