O jornalismo em Portugal e os desafios da Web 3.0

Abstract

The introduction of the Internet in journalism led to deep changes in the way the professionals in this field work. In the first interaction between journalism and Internet - the era of the Web 1.0 - , the possibilities of this technology were not fully explored but the transition to the Web 2.0 generated an increase of the number of news content and generated a bigger participation from the Internet users towards the news articles. The Web continued its evolution and entered in to a third stage – the Semantic Web. Known for its machine-readable content, this Web increased the precision in the process of giving information to the user, being able to customize that information considering the user’s preferences. Web 3.0 has a lot of possibilities that improve the quality of the Portuguese journalism but, for that, it is necessary to understand the relation between these two fields – one of the goals of this dissertation. With that being said, it was made a content analysis of the Portuguese websites Observador and New in Town and interviews with professors and journalists in order to find out the current state-of-art of journalism and the challenges that it will have to overcome considering the evolution of the Semantic Web. The conclusion of this dissertation allow to prove that the Portuguese journalists are not ready for the Web 3.0 and that its technologies are still far from being adopted by the field of journalism. Even though the possibilities of the Semantic Web, that would bring a positive impact to journalism, it is still missing a solid investment by the media owners that will allow the narrowing between journalism and the Web 3.0.
