Abstract
In addition to their functionality, furniture pieces also have a strong decorative and/or symbolic character as artistic objects. As these are works included in people's daily lives, their preservation is extremely important as they serve as an illustration of the way of life during a certain historical period. In addition to a brief historical contextualization of the piece (dedicated to the city of Oporto, the Irmandade dos Clérigos and the production of furniture during the 18th and 19th centuries), which serves as a complement to the practical component of the process, this report focuses mainly on the conservation and restoration intervention on a chest of drawers and explains the process of restoring its functionality. Property of the Irmandade dos Clérigos (in Oporto, Portugal), this piece of furniture is composed of various species of wood and presents not only but also notable structural problems and missing elements.| Date of Award | 12 Sept 2024 |
