Abstract

This study aimed to understand the implications of the reorganization andoperation of health services provided to children and youths at psychosocial risk in therole and practice of social workers. We carried out qualitative exploratory study. The data collection resulted fromthe application of a semi-structured interview to eight Social Services’ professionalswho work at health public units.According to the results, we found that social workers have a more theoreticalthan practical knowledge about the new work proposal implemented in health services, since it is not in full operation. However, they showed a favorable opinion that tends tostandardize procedures. Social workers see themselves as functions’ executors that cutacross all areas of social service intervention, particularly in health, because, they areable to develop processes of social intervention based on abilities such as articulation, negotiation, measurement and intra-institutional interaction with the team members andthe action subjects and the inter-institutional with the community services. The operation of the intra-institutional teamwork takes place through formalrequest of collaboration and inter-institutional articulation by means of routing anddispatch of a letter accompanied by information or social report. It is therefore aninterdisciplinary and multidisciplinary practice, which seeks the primary and secondaryprevention with the entities of the same level of intervention, and, in tertiary prevention, the social worker within the functional articulation makes the sign for the CPCJ(Comission for the Protection of Children and Youths at Risk), and ultimately to thecourts. With this work, we conclude that the working new work proposal introduced inthe health services provided children and young people at risk is a psychosocial process whose implementation still needs effectively to overcome the traditional paradigm ofsocial work intervention, that guides practices and requires intervention model in anetwork, in which the intervention is based on articulation, cooperation and partnership.
