This report, prepared in a reflective and descriptive way, emerged within the scope of the Curricular Unit “Estágio Final e Relatório”, part of the 16th Edition of the Master's Degree in Nursing with Specialization in Medical-Surgical Nursing, in the area of Critical Ill Patient, at the Universidade Católica do Porto. It intends to expose the journey of the last internships, carried out in an Emergency Service and in an Intensive Care Unit, critically reflecting on personal development and professional growth, which resulted in the acquisition of skills as a Specialist Nurse in Medical-Surgical Nursing, in the area of Critical Ill Patient. After the introduction, there is a small summary of the journey taken in the first stage of acquiring skills prior to the Curricular Unit “Estágio Final e Relatório”, which served as the basis for the rest of the journey. In the third chapter, a critical reflection was made on the process of developing specialist nurses' skills in the area of specialization. Within each domain of common skills, the activities developed at each internship location were identified to respond to the objectives previously identified in the internship project and, consequently, the skills acquired. At the end, a final reflection was drawn up at the conclusion. Various themes were explored, highlighting the development of training on the transport of people in critical situations, and the basic principles of approaching people undergoing Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation. It is also worth highlighting the carrying out of several literature searches, with emphasis on carrying out a literature review on the role of nursing in the prevention, identification and treatment of delirium in intensive care units. Critical reflections on the care provided are also added, reflecting the perspective of a specialist nurse, which translated into implications for professional practice, making it possible to demonstrate professional and personal development. During the course, skills were developed relating to the approach to people in critical situations and their families, thus demonstrating professional, legal and ethical practice; in quality practices, especially regarding interventions for continuous improvement of services; in the prevention and control of infection and antimicrobial resistance; in the management of nursing care, anticipating hemodynamic instabilities and the risk of organ failure; in the management of material and human resources; and in the development of professional learning, mainly in assertiveness, basing arguments and clinical practices on the most up-to-date scientific evidence. Finally, this path expresses the perception that was enriched by experiences that enabled the acquisition of skills and critical-reflective development as a Nurse Specialist in Medical Surgical Nursing, in the Area of Critical Ill Patient.
