This dissertation aims to understand from official, declassified documents of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), monographs and official government data, the conceptual framework of NATO which is based on a set of concepts of the strategic order, planning and defense as well as on a set of prospective studies. This work reflection extends from the end of the Cold War (1947-1991) to the most recent Strategic Concept, adopted at the 2022 NATO Summit in Madrid, Spain. This study required a reflection on the evolution of the organization, its cooperation and on possible and current threats, as well as a set of international conflicts that have taken place in recent years.
