: o caso de estudo: metropolitano de Lisboa

Student thesis: Doctoral Thesis

Abstract

In an increasingly global, digital, and competitive world, organizations need to adapt to survive. The focus has shifted from merely maximizing profits to optimizing processes and enhancing their competitive advantages. Meanwhile, employees are becoming more informed, with higher expectations regarding their future and the organizations they work for. Implementing internal strategic practices aimed at employee well-being can positively impact trust, commitment, and identification with the organization, thereby increasing motivation and productivity. It is in this context that internal communication stands out. When applied strategically, it fosters relationship building and development, promoting an environment of growth and sharing, and instilling in employees a sense of belonging and purpose, which directly contributes to organizational well-being. From this perspective, communication dynamics and well-being have been increasingly important not only in organizations but also in academia. Recognizing the significance of understanding these dynamics, the objective of this research was to explore the influence of internal communication on reinforcing employee well-being within an organization. As this study focused on a specific organization, it took the form of a case study. The research centered on the organizational context of the Lisbon Metro (Metropolitano de Lisboa), gathering data through an exploratory interview and the administration of a questionnaire based on the theoretical models of Verčič et al. (2009) and Dessen and Paz (2010b). The study found that internal communication has a positive impact on reinforcing well-being. Employees perceive important values of a humanized management approach and value internal communication as a strategic area for enhancing organizational well-being.
