In this new digital era, Instagram has become a platform that shapes beauty standards and influences millions of people around the world every day. Therefore, the main objective of this dissertation is to discuss, in a delimited field, how the beauty standards promoted by digital influencers on Instagram are perceived by young Portuguese people between 20 and 29 years old. To achieve this, a quantitative methodology was designed, and a questionnaire survey was applied to a sample of 392 Portuguese women who use Instagram. Through this study, it was possible to understand the impact that Instagram and its influencers have on the body image of Portuguese women. In this sense, the results obtained in this dissertation show that there is a general pressure to be within the pre-established beauty standard and that young Portuguese women constantly feel this pressure. Additionally, this beauty standard is promoted by digital influencers on Instagram, which many young Portuguese women follow daily, and this affects the way they perceive their own body and image. Also, the excessive use of editing filters in online photos and videos, which is closely associated with digital influencers, has a negative effect on the way in which young Portuguese women self-perceive their image when comparing themselves to images that are altered until they are perfect.
