This thesis emerges at a still particularly sensitive time of today’s economy where companies increasingly invest in the internationalization of their businesses to thrive. Even though nowadays any company can deal with the demanding and challenging process of internationalization this wasn’t always the case. Just a few years ago only large organizations were able to ensure the resources and instruments needed for their international growth. This reality only became possible thanks to a set of networks that help SME’s overcome the barriers of internationalization. It is on this basis that this dissertation come to light. Thereupon the main purpose is to analyze the role of networking in the internalization process of portuguese companies; not any company, but Born Global companies. To better understand “why” and “how” networks can influence the internalization process of these companies, two research questions were stated. The study follows a multiple case approach based on the international behavior of two companies: Veniam and Jscrambler. The data on which this analysis relies was collected from interviews and some other secondary sources. In the end, it was established that networks do not incite the internationalization of portuguese BG but they do increase its’ degree and commitment. In addition, it was also possible to establish that networks do directly or indirectly influence the international path of these companies.
