This study analysed the predictive role of athletes' perception of parental involvement in relation to sports activity in sports performance, and the mediating role of motivational orientation in this relationship. A total of 301 male athletes from the sub-15, sub-17 and sub- 19 levels that filled three instruments: Parental Behaviours in Sports Questionnaire, Achievement Goal Scale for Youth Sport, and Sport Performance Perception Questionnaire. The results showed positive correlations between parental involvement and motivational orientation towards ego and mastery. It was also found that the motivational orientation towards the ego positively predicts the collective sporting performance, has well as the motivational orientation towards mastery with the individual sporting performance. Finally, it was found that parental involvement is positively predicts sports performance, a relationship mediated by the motivational orientation towards the ego, in the case of collective sports performance, and by the motivational orientation towards mastery, in the case of individual sports performance. It was possible to conclude that higher levels of pressure from male parental performance generated lower levels of motivational orientation towards the ego, and the higher the levels of competitive support from the mothers, the greater the motivational orientation towards mastery
