The present report is part of the scope of the Curricular Unit "Final Internship and Report", inserted in the 2nd year of the 15th Master's Course in Nursing from the Institute of Health Sciences (Porto) of Universidade Católica Portuguesa, taking place in the academic year of 2022/2023. This document aims to describe the path developed in the internship contexts, stating the objectives defined and the activities developed and reflecting, critically, on the acquired skills. During the first year of this course, an internship was performed in a polyvalent intensive care unit, within the Curricular Unit “The Person in Critical Situation and his Family – Surveillance and Clinical Decision”. In the first chapter of this report, it is possible to identify the various competencies of the specialist nurse developed in this context, continuing the path of developing specialized skills in the area of nursing to the person in critical situation. In the scope of the Curricular Unit “Final Internship and Report”, which took place in the second year of the course, two internships’ contexts were taken. The first learning moment occurred in a burn unit and the second moment in a multipurpose emergency service. This report covers the characterization of the two contexts and a reflection on the process of learning and acquiring skills. For its elaboration, we opted for a descriptive and reflective methodology, based on the experiences lived along the way, duly based, using, for this, the scientific evidence supported in literature, scientific articles and documents related to the applicable legislation. The contents presented are also based on the domains of common competencies of specialist nurses, defined by the Portuguese Nursing Council. Throughout the work, professional practice is emphasized, focusing on pain, with two literature reviews, developed in both internship contexts. The course performed contributed to the development and acquisition of specialized competencies in Medical-Surgical Nursing in the area of the Person in Critical Situation, enabling the path to obtain a master's degree, thus developing the critical sense and autonomy, evidenced in decision making.
