«O Porto de sempre. Hoje» Artur de Magalhães Basto, 1894-1960

: sua consolidação patrimonial e historiográfica em Portugal

Abstract

The historian Artur de Magalhães Basto (1894-1960), chronicler and researcher, recognized and referred to, in the city where he was born, both during his life and after his death, left material to be consolidated, within the history of art and for the national culture. The program, which he developed in the scholarship he enjoyed at the Instituto de Alta Cultura, and in the project that would be the origin of the volume volume Apontamentos para um Dicionário de artistas e artífices que trabalharam no Porto do século XV ao século XVIII, fundamental support for the recognition of his contribution to the study of the history of Art, are addressed, first, in his biographical section, and then in his long, scattered and significant bibliography, which presents an independent chapter. Finally, and for the future, the project «O Porto asTorrealways. Today”, it is rehearsed as a museological trial by fire, in a “Casa-Torre” that can house it, that must memorize it, and whose patrimonial value will successively legitimize and enhance it. For the apparent musealization of its agents and other heritage routes, some proposals will be made for a space of memory, Artur de Magalhães Basto's Office, which are already the culmination of this research work.
