Educating is a constructive process that allows individualsto recognize and develop their potential, acquiring knowledge, skills, attitudes and values that will contribute to their social-cultural integration and their permanent formation throughout life. The scientific-technological and informational revolution in the second half of the 20th century transformed the society that continues to suffer rapid transformations. These constant and unpredictable changes require that the educational system continues to renews itself in order to promote a quality and inclusive education, ensuring academic, professional and social success. In this work, we examine and discuss the organizational and pedagogical characteristics of an educational project developed at the “Pavilhão do Conhecimento – Centro Ciência Viva” (PC-CCV) designated “Escola Ciência Viva” (ECV). The main objective of this study is to understand if the specificities of the above project can contribute to the urgent need of modifying the school model currently implemented, contributing to the educational success of its participants. This investigation constitutes, mainly, a qualitative work; although quantitative analyzes have been carried out, and for this reason, we follow a mixed approach. For research methodology, we chose to carry out a case study provided by the uniqueness of the ECV educational project. Our main goal was to investigate the specificities of this project in an integrated and expanded framework. Whenever possible, the relevant data was collected in a natural context. Diverse data collection techniques were combined in order to maximize the information obtained from the multiple sources of evidence. Finally, the analysis and discussion of the collected data was integrated with information derived from a detailed literature review. The results obtained show the innovative character of the ECV educational project that is accomplished through the integration of formal and non-formal educational environments, as well as the implementation of a set of diversified, differentiated and articulated educational modalities. In this way, it promotes an integral development of the students through the promotion of a set of diversified and transversal skills that contribute to their autonomous and active participation in society. This educational project is thus an important partner in the establishment of educational synergies with schools, providing its participants with pedagogical dynamics capable of promoting their educational success.
