Abstract
Corporate governance has undergone a significant paradigm shift in recent years. Governance solely focused on maximizing financial results is no longer enough, as it is imperative to adopt practices that prioritize sustainability, including of the company itself, and environmental and social standards. In this context, corporate purpose emerges as one of the fundamental cornerstones of good corporate governance, as it represents the fundamental motivation behind the establishment of a company, and it is on the purpose that much of the company’s activity should be based. Notwithstanding, considering that Portuguese company law is constructed around the profit orientation of companies, this study seeks to determine the space where corporate purpose and profit can coexist.| Date of Award | 16 Dec 2024 |
