Abstract

In a period characterized by the fast pace of change in economic and social forces, there is a growing concern with the well-being of organizations and their individuals and with the guarantee of a competent and motivated workforce in the achievement of organizational goals. In this context, arises a tendency to emphasize purpose as a key to the sustainable development of organizations, capable of contributing to the levels of involvement, motivation and well-being of employees. Considering the current organizational context and the growing generalization of the concept of Organizational Purpose, this research focuses on the evaluation of the potential of organizational purpose as a motivational factor for employees and intends to investigate the contributions of internal communication of organizational purpose to work motivation. The main objective of this dissertation is, therefore, to explore the nature of the relationship between Organizational Purpose, Work Motivation and Internal Communication. To support this research, in order to prove the hypotheses under study, the methodology adopted is a Case Study of the Portuguese organization I HAVE THE POWER, committed to training people and companies. It’s applied an interview to the CEO and a survey to the organization employees to assess their perception about purpose and own motivations. The results obtained reveal that, globally, the organizational purpose acts as a motivational factor for I HAVE THE POWER employees, constituting internal communication a relevant strategic tool in the incorporation of the organization's purpose. The concern to efficiently communicate the organizational purpose results in a workforce that is aware of the purpose of its organization and that recognizes its relevance as a guide in management and decision processes and a source of motivation for its daily tasks, revealing the importance of making organizational purpose a priority issue at all levels of the organization and plan and implement communication strategies capable of mirroring the organizational purpose.
