Abstract

Web 2.0 has transformed the internet into a real space for collaboration, interaction and knowledge sharing, giving the user the possibility to publish, edit, collaborate and share experiences, information and knowledge in an easy and simple fashion. Thanks to Web 2.0, the user can also benefit from a wide range of tools that have the potential to develop multiple learning and collaborative experiences between teachers and students. Through the Technical Plan for Education, every primary and secondary school in Portugal has been equipped and modernized, enabling internet access through high-speed broadband coverage. The objective of this report is to assess the need and relevance in using Web 2.0 tools in the instruction of Moral and Catholic Religion Education class. In order to achieve the above-mentioned objective, a new perspective regarding the profile of the teacher and student is suggested, through s study that included eighteen final students of the Masters Religious Sciences, module EMRC, during the academic year 2016/2017. The new student and teacher profile, as well as the findings of the study demonstrated that the use of Web 2.0 tools is relevant to improve dynamics in class and at the same time facilitates the learning process for students, while establishing and improving bonds and relationships with students. Web 2.0 features, coupled with the need of EMRC teachers to share and improve their knowledge and educational resources used to teach, this report suggests the creation of a practical learning community, where teachers can share their knowledge and ideas, in order to continually improve the quality of teaching and learning methods.
