Student thesis: Master's Thesis

Abstract

The following work aimed to study the development of the Self through its narrative,
affective, symbolic and practice connection with the sacred place attachment. The sacred
place attachment is still a recent concept in the studies of place attachment. That is why
a theoretical model about the subject was established. Thus, in the scope of a dissertation
project, an exploratory study was developed using the methodology of the Consensual
Qualitative Research (CQR) applying it to 23 participants from the city of Braga. The
places selected for the phenomenon studied were the Sameiro and Bom Jesus (emblematic
religious sites of the city of Braga), to explore the connection between the subjects and
the sacred place attachment. We conclude that both places serve different purposes and
that the use of the sacred place varies throughout the life of the people.
