Abstract
Taking the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan as a case study, I searched for the relationship between demography and water resources, setting the goal to understand both variables in the country’s context, followed by an analysis of the impact caused by the demographic influx, between 2012-2018. It was my understanding that it was possible to affirm the existence of a direct correlation between the population increase and water resource consumption, manifested both in water consumption for human needs and the pressure over Jordan’s water infrastructures - a fact seen mainly in the north and northeast regions, where the demographic increase was higher.Regarding the direct consequences of this phenomenon, aside from the middle and long-term effects of water resources overexploitation in Jordan’s water sustainability, I posit that it is also affecting the financial and economic health of the kingdom. This situation results from an increased cost of water exploitation, as well as the verified impact on the water infrastructure system, which is afflicted by maintenance and expansion costs, and an increase in population in need of subsidies for water consumption
