The current report falls within the scope of the Master's Degree Course in Nursing with Specialization in Medical-Surgical Nursing. The purpose of this report is to provide a critical and reflective view of the activities developed during several internships that provided me with a personal and professional growth through the acquisition and improvement of specialized nursing skills in the area of care to the person in critical condition. This course was developed in two internship contexts, the Emergency and Rescue Medical Vehicle and the Intensive Care Unit, for a total of 360h. In the contexts, the transversal objective was the expansion of knowledge and development of better professional, technical, scientific, ethical and relational skills, always with a correlation between theoretical and practical training, based on a reflective analysis that promotes the consolidation of skills in the area of specialization in Medical-Surgical Nursing in the area of the Person in Critical Condition, focusing on the development of a responsible and enlightened professional practice, with a view to quality nursing care. Based on a culture of critical and reflective thinking that promotes evidence-based action and moves towards a focus on human responses, anchored in the Theoretical Framework: Melleis' Theory of Transitions, the theme on which I conducted a systematic literature review emerged: the meaning of the experience of the family of the critically ill person in intensive care. The results of this review contributed to the in-depth knowledge of the experience of those involved, supporting the development of practical guidelines to improve the quality of care provided to the family and to the critically ill patient.
