The Personal Grooming presents itself as a type of self-care, and thus, as a focus of Nursing, where the nurse has full autonomy to intervene. Although research in this area is quite extensive, in this particular topic, is far from adequate. Hence, the need to study life experiences of a number of elderly people has aroused, in order to perceive the meaning of their Personal Grooming and quality of life. In this context, and following the path proposed by Van Manen (1990), it was developed a phenomenological study to try to understand, not only the Personal Grooming experience, but also its meaning. Therefore, a convenience sample was selected consisting of six seniors. The selected methodology for the data collection was the unstructured interview followed by a significance analysis of the information obtained. Despite Personal Grooming varies between each individual, depending on the context and environment in which he belongs, it shows great relevance in the participants lives, some with more awareness than others. When people take care of themselves, all the benefits can be perceived and consequences provided by this activity positively influence those around them. Furthermore, when absent or inadequate at any given time, the Personal Grooming can be very damaging and restricting, both by the possibility of external criticisms or by not recognizing themselves in the way they are. Nurses could prove a key role in diagnosis, intervention and evaluation of data gathered from individuals when faced with problems/inadequacies due to this focus. Thereby, nurses should understand each person expectations in its specificity, how the Personal Grooming is experienced and act accordingly in order to improve or maintain the quality of life of the seniors with whom he interacts.
