This report originates from a desire to preserve and propagate family history, presenting an authorial photography project developed from the influence that post-memory has on the post-memorial generation, starting from the family’s photography archive. The research investigates how post-memory, that is, the memory of an event that was not directly experienced, but which is inherited through narratives and photographs, influences memory and photographic creation. The focus is on the post-memorial generation and the relationship it establishes with the family’s photographic archive. By collecting photographs belonging to the mother’s parents vernacular archive, the aim is to understand how post-memory manifests itself in the post-memorial generation and how they interpret collective memory in the creation of new images. This report is divided into two sections of investigation: a theoretical section that contemplates the contextualization of vernacular photography, the archive, nostalgia, memory, and the construction of post-memory; a phase that comprises the practical execution of the project, divided into an exhibition and a photobook, joining photos created by the author and others, collected from the family archive.
