Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused violent disruptions to global supply chains and industries, drastically transforming companies' strategies and challenging them to adapt and evolve immediately. Since the study of the impact of the pandemic crisis in the Portuguese context remains scarce, this dissertation undertakes to contribute to this topic by focusing on the ability of Portuguese companies in the textile industry to respond to the disruption. The impacts caused by the pandemic on the industry's behavior were analyzed and the concepts based on risk management, presented as the starting point of this study, were further explored. As a research method, semi-structured interviews were carried out with five representatives of textile companies in Portugal and then a detailed analysis of the information collected was carried out. Flexibility and the use of dynamic capabilities proved to be decisive in steering these companies positively in the face of the pandemic. Through the challenges, innovation practices, transparency and sustainability also emerged as opportunities for future development. Collaboration also proved to be efficient and led the companies to an advantage.
