Abstract

Currently, service companies are entering international markets with particular abundance, however, the investigations carried out in this field do not reflect the position that they assume in the international context. With this study we intend to analyze the influence of expatriates and their families in the internationalization strategy of service companies. In particular, we study how expatriates lead a service company to internationalize. For this, we selected as the object of study a Portuguese company in the field of babysitting services, Nanny4me, in order to understand the "How" and "Why" of the decisions taken during the internationalization process. The adopted research strategy was case study, including an interview with the founder and owner of the company, which allowed us to understand how expatriates influenced the decision to internationalize his business. The results suggest that the influence of expatriation in the process of internationalization of services occurs on several levels. First, the increasing demand of business services from their country of origin was prove to alleviate the difficulties experienced by expatriates in the destination country. On the other hand, the deliberate strategy of the companies internationalize their services in response to initial requests from expatriates.
