Abstract

The XXI century is seen as the century of the abundance of information. An educational organization that try to remain isolated and in a state hermeneutic is not doomed to develop and ultimately not survive the change. These rapid and profound transformations bring consequences on several pillars of society, including the school. Thus, it is essential to develop and adapt, if necessary, the roles of different stakeholders in a school that advocates as an open space, ready to external influences of an information society and increasingly complex communication, in which the audiovisual contemporary image. The social reality of individuals is embedded by the consumption of audiovisual communication. Youngsters by "... their curiosity, eagerness to learn, to decipher the mysteries of the unknown, make them aware and passionate consumers of images" (Mercado, 1984, p. 53). The goal of this dissertation is to contribute to a better understanding of the factors that can enhance the incorporation of media and technology in school in order to maximize student learning. In practical component of this work is presented a case study in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (case Educamedia Program) in which, if you have the perception of its influence on the use of technology and media and, specifically, film school, by teachers and students. And that, it turns out for their active participation and specifically the project "Learning with movies" were various activities are performed using the language media. The materials and resources provided by the program are an asset, and potentiate the use of media and technology in the school, will also meet the educational needs school in training for citizenship. It appears that students are aware of the importance of using media and technology in the classroom, in their learning, namely, video and film, verifying that their use in such cases is fruitful and motivating for introduce, exemplify and explore certain content. They consider that they learn much more about a topic or issue explored through the activities proposed by Educamedia.
