The podcast, a term coined in 2004, is an increasingly popular format, primarily characterized by its accessibility across time and place. Its flexibility allows listeners to engage with content whenever it suits them best. Traditionally marginalized in media access, women have also faced limited opportunities in this new communication medium. However, they have begun to carve out a notable presence, addressing a wide range of topics. This dissertation explores the potential impact of womenled podcasts on the Portuguese audience. Using a mixedmethods approach, we conducted a content analysis of the 25 most popular womenhosted podcasts on Spotify in Portugal, created an online survey with 1,255 responses, and interviewed two prominent Portuguese podcasters. The findings reveal a significant preference for womenled podcasts among female listeners, as well as some mismatches between supply and demand, such as social media presence and preferred categories. This exploratory study aims to contribute to a deeper understanding of this format in Portugal, the themes discussed, and the specifics of women’s engagement, as well as consumption habits, while suggesting pathways for its future growth.
