The choir pedagogical practice with children and adolescents presents a rather intense tradition in Portugal. In particular, the subject of Choir is included in the curriculum of musical artistic courses since 1888, through the Decree-Law of 6 December. Several pedagogues praise choir practice in musical education as they consider it an instrument for moral, intellectual and civic for the students. However, dealing with a choir of young people, especially in the adolescence, can become a difficult challenge. The different voice evolution and changes between the various students, give the teacher a key role in the knowledge of vocal development. Here they are some of the main reasons. In that the students not showing the same voice change´s phases, he must guide the students wisely, through the chosen repertoire and through technical exercises in order to help their development and to keep them motivated. Moreover, the repertoire choice is proven essential for the student’s motivation as well as the implementation of the subject becomes a significant tool of social inclusion and integration. Following important contemporary theories, this research aimed to verify the essential factors in student’s motivation in the subject of Choir, and it was developed with students of the 3rd cycle Choir in the Centro de Cultura Musical, of Santo Tirso. Starting from the data collection and the bibliographical analysis, it was concluded that the choir practice, especially in the adolescence, together with motivated students, is the key for the success of the students. The results of the participants reinforce the key ideas repeated by the authors of the selected bibliography. Therefore, the application of varied methodological strategies, combined with different repertoires and a favourable social environment are conclusive factors in the development of students.
