Abstract

The objective of this study is analyze the relationship between the meanings attributed to work and the Burnout Syndrome, covering Portuguese and Brazilian workers.The study focuses on the importance of considering the meanings that workers attributeto their work, and the impact that these can have in terms of burnout, in their differentcultures. Through studies, we can see the absence of meaning at work is associated withnegative outcomes for employees, such as prolonged absences from work, psychologicalstress. Regarding the meaning of work, it is related to high levels of confidence, involvement at work and a more positive mood, thus generating a higher quality of life.
