Abstract

The present report is part of the master’s degree in music education at Catholic University in Portugal. It aims to presents both the competences acquired during the professional practice part in the specialized areas of ensemble class and transverse flute and the research related to the Pedagogical Intervention Project (PIP) "Individual Study Guide 30 minutes with my flute ". This Intervention Project aimed to optimize the study of Transverse Flute students, leading to a more effective learning through a guided practice using a personal study guide created by the teacher: 30 minutes with my flute. Implemented at Conservatório de Artes do Marco de Canaveses - Artâmega, during the 2nd and part of the 3rd term, this intervention project was attended by three students of the Transversal Flute Class of the Music Basic Course, articulated regime, 3rd cycle. The research strategy used in this project was based on an intervention-action methodology focused on a case study. At first, the main goal was to identify problems through the observation of the students in classes, with the purpose of recognizing flaws in the organization of time and in the daily individual study and its quality. After, comprehensive data collection techniques were used, such as direct observation entry in the field diary and observation grids, semi-structured interviews with the Cooperating Guidance Teacher and questionnaires, that were applied at the beginning and at the end of the project. Students’ prior grades were also included in the document analysis. The collected date was analyzed and interpreted, and the results obtained showed that the Individual Study Guide "30 minutes with my flute" had a positive effect on the students' development and on their weekly study planning, contributing to the acquisition of new study tools.
